for the website plenty of fish is there a way of making your profile or at least your pictures only viewable to logged in users? Do I have to subscribe to do that?

Yeah, this is a first for me as well. Shoot customer service an email. I'm sure they've gotten the question before. If they won't help, you don't want to do business with them anyway.
