Preventing Yahoo IM from saving message archive on the other end

I recently came up to a situation where when i tried viewing my yahoo message archive i was only able to view what i typed in the conversation. everything that the other person typed was not there.
I was wondering on how is that possible. there are no settings on the Yahoo's end to do something like that. What do you guys think?

I'd take a look in the settings, I'm not familiar with Yahoo IM but it's possible there's a box to tick and untick that says log incoming messages, maybe you only have log outgoing messages ticked.
