Problem in VLC

This problem came out of the blue. When I open a video in VLC, there is no audio. I haven't changed the audio settings and my volume is turned on. I have even gone into the mixer to try to put the VLC volume higher, but that hasn't helped.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Any suggestions?

Try the latest version? Change the audio output if that was changed recently? Just based on speculation. Did you add any new audio devices into your computer?

I reseted the pref. and cache - did not help. I updated to latest version - did not help.

I can hear the audio fine in other players like zune, itunes and wmp; it's just vlc that has this problem.

- Anything blocking/muting VLC? Try renaming the main exe file and running it.
- Try a nightly build.

Sorry. 🙁 Just trying. I can't guarantee that I know exactly what is wrong. Something may be blocking it. Restart and try VLC without opening any other apps? If not, try the same in safe mode. I'm not too keen on what Windows 7's safe mode does. Hopefully it doesn't auto-start any apps like it does in normal boot.

Silly question:

Did you check the sound volume of the VLC Player itself?

Deinstall it complete and reinstall it again and see what happens.

Start your browser, search with different search engines and use different phrases.

The sound is only not hearable in VLC - it works in other programs! This means it is a software or VLC issue, NOT sound board.

Deinstall it complete and reinstall it again and see what happens.

I already posted above that I tried this.

I asked those silly questions, because I could search for hardware and software isseus on the net. Could be that this hardware might have an issue with VLC Player.

Did you try a previouse version reinstallation?

You never know, that's why.

Did you do an Windows Update?

If so, search as written.

Check under Preference>audio>Output module

make sure that you are using the correct audio device as you also did not mention what connection you use for audio (analog, hdmi, optical). try using the "win32 wave out" and DirectX Audio"

remember to restart VLC for the changes to take effect.

I am connected to external speakers using the same kind of connection you'd use to connect headphones to an ipod/phone. Forgot what it's called

that would be analog.

open vlc. go to tools>preferences>audio

look for the "output" section under audio.
1. change the "output module" to "DirectX audio output".
2. DO NOT SELECT THE CHECKBOX for "use S/PDIF when available"
3. change the "device" to "speakers (soundcard name)"
4. click save
5. restart vlc

@op silly question but,are you running 64bit version of vlc or 32bit
