I have a Philips TV (40PFL4707/F7) and have struggled to connect it with an old Kenwood receiver (KA-405). I have currently connected the two devices using a coaxial digital cable, a DAC and RCA cables.

My television does not detect that it is connected. In the sound options, "TV Speakers" is greyed out with a message stating that "This item is currently unavailable".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Solution
Option 1. You could have used the headphone out. A cable with 3.5mm stereo mini plug at the TV end and 2 RCA plugs at the receiver end would work fine. The TV remote would change the volume in this case.
Option 2. You may have used a DAC that is not compatible with a 5.1 input. If you can change the TV audio output type in the TV menu try that. A DAC that works with 5.1 would also work.

Thank you. The 3.5mm stereo mini plug and RCA worked for me.

Are there any recommended suggestions in regards to setting the volume for the amplifier? Should I set it to medium? Medium-high? Medium-low?
