Problems when the dish faces the sun

I keep trying to record the Rockford Files at about 1 p.m. on WGN, but
when it comes on my The Dish gives me a blue error screen saying the
signal has been lost. It gives me this for the entire hour.

And when I look out the window, I notice the dish is pointing exactly
toward the sun. Would the reception of a satellite signal be affected
if the sun is behind it?

Technically, that's supposed to only happen once a year for certain
satellite signals.
However, it kinda sounds like you "might" have a bad LNB that is
starting to fry.
I'm assuming that all other channels are shot as well?
What's the signal strength like during all other times of the day,
and does it abruptly stop at 1 PM?

It happens twice a year for about a week on ALL geo satellites. Non geo may
travel where they never are in the path, but we as consumers, don't use
them.
The outage, however, is around 15 minutes to a half-hour and happened a few
weeks ago.

I knew it was something like that. We'd get notices regarding which
sat would experience it on what days.
But, calf never wrote back with more info, so I guess we'll never
know.

The repair crew switched out the front part of the satellite dish
assembly. The part that sticks out in front of the dish. And now I am
able to tape the Rockford Files. But I get stuck with a $39 repair bill
for an item I only bought back in January.

Apparently then, it "Could have been" a bad LNB that was getting
fried when it collected to much heat....or a bad connection.
Still, a 40 buck "repair charge" is kinda cheap!

Bummer that you couldn't have done some simple checks and/or
answered the questions asked of you to give us more info before they
replaced it, but then again, they do only have a certain amount of
warranty time on the parts.
And yes, LNB'S do go sour at times, but it is extremely rare.
Hopefully, you told them to give you the old parts that they
replaced....right?

Some unscrupulous installers DO use "used" parts.

Keep this in mind six month from now, as the same "interference" you
might have experienced will be coming up again, then.

Something about some of the sun's many different types of gamma or
other rays, DIRECTLY behind the orbiting satellite's beems, as it's
located to you, can play havoc.
