MOST new laptops, such as the ones I sell come with a TRIAL version of Office 2010... it lasts for 60 days then if you wish to continue using it you have to PAY Microsoft for it...

A free alternative would be Libre Office. If your not interested in paying for MS office.

Sadly I think your right Brett, they used to come with starter office but Microsoft seem to have stopped that. Only options are to buy a copy of something like Home and Student edition which is not too bad a price or use one of the free alternatives like Libre Office as suggested.
