program wants to read data from optical drive

I have a legacy digital library that is programmed to read the data from a CD inserted in the optical drive.
Needless to say, this is a really slow way to search and display data. It's no way to work.
How can I fix this problem?
I tried converting it into an ISO and mounting it, but I always get back to the same problem. It tells me to insert the CD.

You would need to modify the code of the program. Don't know why it won't read an ISO of the disk though unless it looks for a specific drive letter. Try changing the drive letter of the virtual disk mount to D

thanks. I tried changing it to D and to E but that didn't work.
apparently it has a copy-protection feature. There must be some special quality of the physical CD that doesn't copy onto the ISO.
