Programs not recorded

I've had programs not record many times for the same reason as I will now
describe:

I have a Directv Tivo with 2 tuners. I programed a program to start
recording at 8:50 PM (2 hour recording but to start recording 10 minutes
early) and another 1 hour program starting at 9 PM (not to record early) on
another channel. The box was in standby mode. Then when the record light
came on at 8:50, I took the Tivo box out of standby mode and switched the
tuner (down arrow) to view the program being recorded. For the next 10
minutes, I clicked no buttons on the remote nor got any messages on the
screen. At about 9:02, I pushed the info button only to find out that the
program that was to record at 9 PM wasn't being recorded. In the To Do list
history it said the program wasn't recorded because:

"This program was not recorded because someone in your household did not
allow the recorder to change channels to begin the recording."

As I said this happens sometimes and sometimes it works OK. Does anyone else
have this problem? Is there a fix?

Any help is appreciated.

I have never heard of such a thing but I would suggest not using the
standby mode.

Not that it should matter but why use the standby mode?

As Henny Youngman used to joke "'Doc, it hurts when I do this...' and the
Doc says, 'Well don't do that.'

Try it without using standby mode.

It's probably a mistake to watch something being recorded as if it were
live. (I agree that what you did *should* have worked.) I might have
tried watching the 8:50 p.m. recording by selecting it from the Now
Playing List. Doing it that way shouldn't affect what the other tuner
does.

Don't use standby mode. To see what programs are being recorded, go to
the now playing list, not live tv. Also it's a good idea to check the to
do list. directv central - pick programs to record - to do...

When I'm not watching TV, I put it standby mode so it doesn't continuously
record (2 channels with the 2 tuners) 24 hours a day.

Standby mode would have nothing to do with it since it wasn't in standby
mode when it failed. In fact, it has never failed in standby mode.

I sometimes do watch it from the playlist as you said. But, then as you said
it should work either way.I'll try it from the playlist from now on and see
if I ever get the same problem.

Thanks, Art
