Projector and DVD player with HDMI, receiver without: can I improve picture?

I have a Sony VPL-VW100 projector and Pioneer DVD player.

Both have one HDMI output.

My receiver is an HK AVR 7000, 15+ years old.

Unfortunately there are no HDMI outputs.

Are there any solutions which would allow me to improve the quality of projected picture?

So bypass receiver and direct connect DVD ----> Sony?

I admit if Sony has a single HDMI port this would be inconvenient, maybe some sort of HDMI switch if you can buy one with a remote. Amazon my good man. Between Google and Amazon, 98% of world questions already answered.

One follow-up question.

The HK-S Video port is currently connected to the "S-Video Out" port on the DVD.

If I use this converter to connect the HK S-Video to the DVD's HDMI port:

Would that be sufficient?

There is only one HDMI port on this DVD player.
