projector/dvd connection problem

I have a DVD player (newer) that uses HDMI, and an older (working) projector that uses VGA. I purchased a HDMI/VGA cable/converter. In other words, the HDMI cord plugs into the DVD, and then has a converter that you plug the VGA cord into which links to projector. However, the projector says it can find no source - in other words, it won't play / read the DVD player. ...

Try connecting the DVD to another TV and changing the video resolution of the DVD player to match the native resolution of the projector. If it's set to high the projector can't handle it.
