Projector wont play blur-rays

I just came into possession of a Benq sp830 projector. Unfortunately the projector doesn't have any hdmi ports, but it does have a dvi port. I got a cable that goes from hdmi to dvi and ran that from my blu ray player to the projector. I can view the blu ray player's menu but as soon as I try to start up the disc the projector goes black. Any suggestions?

I've done both and made sure they were both on the same resolution. I think it has something to do with HDCP rules. The website says that the dvi port on the projector is hdcp compliant and I know my blu ray player is so the only thing I can come up with is the dvi to hdmi cable

Make sure that the disc player is set to the native resolution of the projector which is 1280 x 768. Otherwise try component video.
