My grandson broke his phone (again). Grandma wants to buy him a phone so I can talk to him. How can I buy a cheap phone that will work with his parents verizon plan?

Craigslist, just search in phones for a Verizon one, easy to activate them on a new plan. Just make sure they have a clean ESN (meaning not stolen or banned from the network for some reason).

That is the best option. CDMA is verizons wireless network. If you get a phone that doesn't work on CDMA, it won't work on Verizon.
