To make it short I've been having a lot of problems when uploading my game play videos to youtube. The quality of the videos after I render is great but once I upload them they look HORRIBLE at 1080p60. Here is a video before rendered https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bw2kRgXkHeOyTXlKXy0xWWZhTjQ just download it, and after uploading to YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR4uZEV38yc

I have tried to look up vidoes and forum posts that explain the best render settings to use in Sony Vegas 13 and here they are http://imgur.com/yVQoEfT

The video there finished at 223MB. As far as I'm aware youtube can handle over 100 GB videos and can have 4k resolution videos so I can't seem to see why my videos would lose quailty when I am even using settings from other content creators when rendering!

Solution

I reinstalled [strike]Sony[/strike] Magix Movie Studio Platinum 13 recently and lost my settings. The bitrate is usually the only thing I have to change other than profile to high (and ofc the resolution as there is no template for 1440p).

I use Bandicam to record. Note that I record at 1440p since that is my native resolution.

I tested it and yeah that is the bitrate I use for the most part. It really is pointless to upload a super high bitrate file because YouTube just throws away most of the file when you do this. I have noticed though at higher than 1080p resolutions...

I don't understand why you need more than 20,000,000 for recording gameplay.

Drop down the bitrate section on this page and you'll see what I mean.

This can be quickly overridden by clicking on the gear icon within the player and setting Quality to 1080p60. However, load times should be expected to increase if you have a slow internet connection.

Hey, sorry for late reply. So i recorded the game play in 1080p60 and 15,000,000 bitrate and rendered it in the same settings but 15,000,000 bits after uploading the quality is still bad - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1sTvJOgPzQ&feature=youtu.be

Looks fine to me.

Are you trying to watch it on YouTube soon as it says it's done uploading and processing? For large videos, it can take up to sometimes three hours for the full quality version to be available for immediate playback. Wait at least 90 minutes after upload before deciding that the upload quality is bad.

Okay Thanks. So I have waited quite some time now and the quality is still not as clear as I would like it to be. The game play just looks quite bad

What are you comparing it to?

If you are comparing to the source recording, it will always look worse on YouTube. When they transcode your file to their format it tends to be a low quality conversion. High motion scenes at a low bitrate will almost always have artifacts like that, it is the nature of the codec (a lot depends on the type content).

For some examples. This is Project Cars. The source file was perfect. Crystal clear and the file size was smaller than what is presented on YouTube, my theory was during the transcoding process it wouldn't touch it too much since it fits in the container, nope. No matter what I did it looked terrible.

This is Terraria. Note how in the dark sky you can see nasty artifacts all over the place. Looks terrible. Again with a perfect render. The uploaded file was flawless.

Here is Doom. This turned out quite good IMO. There are a few artifacts there but nothing like in the Project Cars video.

This last one is Dark Souls III. Made this video really quick to show what critical attacks are. The quality is pretty good in this too.

So what is the difference? In the last two videos I uploaded at 1440p 60 FPS (i record at this resolution and FPS). It made the 1080p60 option look better.

Okay Thank you for your reply. What bitrate do you recommend me to record with and render?

I have noticed though at higher than 1080p resolutions they switch to using VP9 for it which makes it look a lot better. However your videos look fine. About as good as they are ever going to get. Upscaling 1080p to 1440p doesn't do anything though as there is a marked loss of detail, like watching 720p on a 1080p screen (but not as pronounced).

Rendered this with those settings above just now. It is a fresh upload so it might look bad until it is done processing the 1440p version.

Okay Thank you for the help. I will use your render settings They look similar to mine.
One last question what should i set the bitrate while recording on shadow play?

I couldn't tell ya. I tried Shadowplay a few times and could never make it look right, same with OBS, it just had a strange look to the output file that I couldn't put my finger on. I tried a bunch of different software for recording and went with Bandicam due to the huge amount of options available and the minimal FPS loss while recording.

You could try it at around 40,000,000. Should be lossless at that point. If not, increase until it is.
