I have just wasted $ 4 by trying to capture a PPV movie off of my
direct TV receiver. I have the DTV receiver connected to my replay 5580
via s-video.
Tried to manually set up the replay unit manually to record channel 149
from 1:30 through 3:30 which should have included the entire movie plus.
Using DVA I tried to transfer the recorded material into my computer.
The leds on the router indicated that a transfer was taking place, but
after completion, there was nothing on the hard drive that purported to
be what supposedly was transferred from the replay unit.
I am new to using PPV and may not have even gotten that correct even
though the charge definitely shows up on the DTV unit.

I could definitely could use some guidance with this, because I hate to
pay for a movie and not even be able to re-run it.
Thanks for any help. Jeff

Many of the PPV movies on DirecTV are "all day ticket", meaning that
you'll be able to watch it any time during the "day" (6AM-6AM the next
day). This often allows you to correct DVR mistakes without paying
again.

You may want to use the composite video connector. It's more
physically secure (less likely to be knocked loose) and you probably
won't notice the difference in quality.

Is the file still present on the Replay? When DVA is set to "delete
after transfer", it should do so only after a COMPLETE transfer.

Are you sure you were looking in the correct directory? It won't be
that hard to search for a large (it'll be larger than 1GB) .MPG file
with a recent timestamp.

You must have been using the phoneline for ordering. It's best to
leave that disconnected (I have for 2 years with no problem) and order
PPV from the DirecTV website.

I gave a few suggestions that should help.

Excellent idea!!

Again, excellent.

Hmmm, The file just showed the banner at the top of the screen
momentarily, then just blank screen, when I tried to play it back on the
replay. Seems like I missed it somehow.

Yep, the file should have been in the neighborhood of 3 gig. Not there.

Yes I did. I'll try your method next time. Mark, does the DTV
website have a fairly complete listing of movies and the times for
showing???

Thank you for your suggestions, I'm sure that they will be of great
benefit to me.

No message? Like the DTV one of "to order press OK" or the RTV one of
"no video signal detected".

Check channel 149. It's possible the cable came loose, or the channel
number wasn't specified right. You may have time to try again (for the
same $4).

The LED on the router may have referred to something else. I notice
the WAN LED on my router is active all the time (for external
connection attempts). It's rare to see 2 seconds between attempts (I
have cable internet). Much of the time, it's as active as during a
download. Check the LED for the connection to the Replay.

Looks like you specified Medium Quality. Standard should be enough.

However, that is NOT the cause of this problem.

Yes. And you can even order from that guide (once you've signed up,
which is easy).
