I have an Altec Lansing speaker set, and randomly (even when they are not plugged into anything) they make sounds. The sound is the same, even when the volume is all the way down. Can some help please.
No, they are plugged into the ac, There is nothing on the 3.5mm jack. I have made sure the connector for the 3.5mm is not near anything as well. The sound is like a crackling and then suddenly there's a massive noise that doesn't go down with the volume. The noise is like a drone.
Audio cables crossing an electrical wire should be done at a 90 degree angle. Running the 2 wires parallel to each other is the worst configuration for interference.
Check that your audio cable is not near any of your power cables. You can end up listening to 120 KHz that way.
This solved my sudden and mysterious static issue as well!
About a week ago I organized all the TV, PC, etc., wires by bunching them together. That's when the static started coming through my PC and TV. After reading your post I separated them and the static disappeared.
