RCA surround system in Sony Bravia sound system option HDMI

Hi
I have a Sony Bravia TV with 2 HDMI ports. In tv's main menu it has option to use sound from build-in speaker or from sound system, and then in user's manual it says that HDMI 1 can be used for connect a sound system.
Now my question: I have a RCA sound system, can I plug it into HDMI 1 with a HDMI to RCA cable and then select in TV sound system source?

No you can't. There is no such thing as an passive HDMI to RCA cable since HDMI is digital video and audio. That HDMI input is designed to work with sound systems that support ARC (audio return channel) over HDMI. You will need to use the TV audio output which is usually digital optical audio and a converter like this one:

if your sound system has only RCA inputs.
