receiver and soundbar

Help!!! I mounted my TV and purchased a receiver a year and a half ago. I run three components, including the cable box, through the receiver so that I only have one hdmi cable running up the wall from the receiver to the TV. We have a large living room and because we use only the TV speakers, the sound is sometimes muffled and hard to hear. So, I got a soundbar for christmas. I'm trying to hook it up so that the soundbar plays the sound regardless of the component. Any help is very much appreciated!

I am not clear what the receiver is doing for you other than acting as an HDMI switcher if you need a sound bar. If you connect the soundbar to the TV (usually using an optical audio cable) that should work.
