Ok tom heres another one. my pioneer sx-790 ( really a 780 ) has the usual jacks for phono, aux l/r,tape1rec & play,tape2 rec & play. My question is, can i record my old lp's to a cd using my tape rec & play jacks to a cd recorder?

There are numerous RCA -> USB converters. Plug it into the TAPE REC, and your receiver treats it as a 'tape deck.
USB into the PC, and it records an audio file. Convert to whatever format you want, and burn that to CD as desired.

On the software end, I've used Audacity. Free and easy.

Start the album and recording from Audacity at the same time. Safe the resulting file as whatever format you want.
Edit as needed, and then burn to CD.

I've done a couple hundred of my albums like this. Have to get around to doing the other several hundred.
