Remote for computer to tv?

Hello everyone. I have my new entertainment system in the mail for my living room. It will have a 7.1 receiver with 6 HDMI in.

I have my computer room up stairs and living room downstairs. Running an HDMI from my computer to my receive will be no problem what so ever.

I am wonder if someone could help me find a solution that I could play video from my computer onto my TV without having to run upstairs to start/stop the video.

Say for example, I'm sitting down stairs and want to watch a move that is on my computer. How could I do that without going up stairs?

Same with playing music.

Is any solution out for this?

Not sure how well Bluetooth would work going through walls/ceiling, but if you're comfortable running an HDMI cable down, then you could also run an MCE USB IR Receiver cable. That, plus a remote control (and a media center application), will give you the control you're looking for.

That sounds like a good idea. Do you (or anyone else) know of a good remote I can purchase?

I've been recommending this Hauppauge Media Center Remote or if you already have a Logitech Harmony remote control, you could use that (and a USB IR Receiver).
