I own a laptop MSI GE70, and ive read online that these laptops have heat issues and run really hot. 90-95c. so i was looking around on the internet to find ways to cool it down. i purchased a cooling pad but it didnt really make a difference. so i found out that removing the battery and leaving it plugged into power dropped my heat instantly from 90-95c down to 65-80c but the problem is any game that i play i get atleast half quality.

for example 150fps in cs:go with battery in and plugged into outlet but runs at 90-95c

or

Battery taken out and just plugged into outlet 60-70c and 60-75fps.

any help would be appreciated

That's just crazy and makes no sense. Taking the battery out should have no effect at all on gameplay unless the card is drawing off the battery because the AC adapter is unable to provide a sufficient and constant supply of power. Is there any chance you have the incorrect power supply for that laptop? Maybe try changing the performance settings in Power Options (Control Panel) to High Performance.

Yeahh i searched google long and hard before coming here. I found the same results you did. Ill try phoning msi support maybe. But if anyone has an idea on whats going on would be great.

I'd check your BIOS version against the most recent version and update if you don't have the most recent:

http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70_0NC.html#down-bios

And I'd also update every driver provided if the version is newer (Or maybe just redo them all to make sure none have been corrupted or have issues):

For windows 8 and 8.1:
http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70_0NC.html#down-driver&Win8 64

For windows 7:
http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70_0NC.html#down-driver&Win7 64

For windows 7 32bit:
http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70_0NC.html#down-driver&Win7 32

tried updating bios and it said Rom Image Update denied
EPI_SECURITY_VIOLATION Rom Image version is invalid. i checked my computer its a MSI ge60 2oe windows 8 and i got the download link from here: http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE60-2OE.html#down-bios&Win8%2064

should i update to windows 8.1 and try?

Gunna do the drivers now.

Update #1: Updated the bios successfully to Version 51C but when i went to try 71C i would go through the bios screen and hit apply update then my computer would shut down, start back up and instead of seeing the msi logo screen it just stays black.

So now you got nothing? Ok, I realize you probably didn't realize this, but you don't generally need to do each individual update to the bios. When it comes to BIOS and most drivers, the most recent version contains ALL previous versions, so you only do the most recent update and then you're done. Hopefully you didn't shut it off in the middle of an update or something. That's usually the only time you end up with a blank screen afterwards, in which case you've got troubles. There may be a way to force an update but I'll have to look into it. Also, why is it you first said it's a GE70 and now say it's a GE60? Are you sure you didn't flash the wrong BIOS? I hope not.

Sorry i thought it was a ge70. But i first tried the newest update which was the 71v and i got that error. Then i tried the 51c and it worked. Then attempted the 71c again and got black screen. But my computer works. Imma try some games and see if it made a difference. How come im getting this black screen?

you must be very lucky if you flashed a BIOS wrong and your pc is still running :p

I'm about to pull my hair out too. I got this guy installing the wrong BIOS and a guy in another thread that I suggested he should try to automatically update drivers in device manager. Instead he downloaded drivers for the wrong model and screwed it all up. I'm just glad the OP in this thread is still able to use his rig.
