Hi.

I have a ASUS R510L (i5-4210U) with Intel HD Graphics 4400 GPU. I'm having the same issue as this thread (http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2319155/max-resolution-external-monitor.html) but there was no advice given on if the guy was using an HDMI port. I am and I am stuck with the 1366X768 on my 19.5" external monitor (ACER K202HQL). I've actually installed the monitor driver from the Acer site and I have the latest driver for the graphics card for this laptop. I am using a Belkin HDMI to VGA converter to use with the monitor but I thought I read it could go up to 1900 X something (unfortunately I cannot find and official wording on that).

Does anyone know of a trick or something to where I could go to at least 1600X900?

Thanks.

Solution
Well it turns out that if I bothered reading the box, the K202HQL's are limited to 1366x768 for HD. I assume since I'm going thru HDMI, that's strictly hd while VGA can max to 1600x900 which they don't mention. So it doesn't appear to be Asus' fault. I have to use the higher resolution of 1600x900 on the VGA hookup bc 1366x768 is fuzzy as hell on it. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions but the box provided the answer (duh).

Very interesting. But I have a second exact same monitor hooked up via vga port that uses that resolution. I am familiar with the Intel display panel and will give the custom setting a shot. I'll let you know and thanks.

This monitor that is hooked up via vga is a different computer? If so have you tested the hdmi cable and hdmi to vga adapter on the other computer? Perhaps the hdmi to vga adapter is causing this issue.

No the vga hookup is on the same pc and the monitor is exactly the same (model #). So basically one of the monitors is hooked up to vga and the other on hdmi.

Ok - so you have monitor A and monitor B correct?
Monitor A has the problem, but monitor B doesn't.
Is it possible to unplug the cables from the monitor B and plug them into monitor A?
If so do you still have the issue?

I tried that last night before I posted. The hdmi is only allowing what is max for the laptop screen on whichever monitor I hook up to it. The problem is I read that the resolution should be much higher thru the HDMI converter. I wish I could provide the link but Google has been useless in helping me recover it. That's why I posted hoping someone could provide some feedback. I plan on trying the custom setting suggested earlier this evening.

Thanks.

Monitor doesn't have a hdmi port so that's why I'm using the adapter. Vga works fine but I'm wanting to use 2 monitors.

I've tried 2 different vga cables to connect to it. I'm stuck with the hdmi end that plugs into the port. I've read others did not get much use from switching to a hdmi to dvi converter.

I'm going to try a dvi to hdmi cable I'm picking up from Target this evening. If that improves the resolution, I'll post back.

I purchased a DVI to HDMI cable and it's still only doing 1366x768 max. I guess this HDMI port on this ASUS is just crap.
