I have recently had trouble with my laptop so factory resetted it but still was very slow and unstable so factory reset it again with no change. I ran a S.M.A.R.T test on the hard drive as i read on google my problem may be how old my hard drive is (going on 5/6 years). The result was caution and was wondering if anyone could tell me how bad this result actually is? and any advice?

thanks in advance

I would copy any important data off it ASAP. Reallocated sectors happen, but if your pending reallocated sector count is rising it indicates that the drive is near death.

Any flag on smart is sign of a dying HDD.

Time to backup and purchase a nice SSD 😉

Don't forget, if your recovery image is on a a hidden partition, you should make a set of backup DVD's.

thanks for the advice thought i might have to get a new one. any advice on how to go about purchasing a new hhd? will i have to pay someone to put it in my laptop for me?
