Samsung and Xfinity1 Connections

Equipment Includes:

1.) Xfinity1 Cable Box with HDMI and Optical
2.) Samsung Smart TV Model 5200 (No ARC)
3.) Samsung 5.1 HT-J5500W

I simply have spent a week trying to get connections correct, tv settings etc to match cable and HTS. How should all these connections be hooked up for best performance.

1. Cable box to TV with HDMI
2. HTS to TV with HDMI for disc playback
3. TV optical out to HTS for cable box and smart tv sound to HTS
Turn on the optical out on the TV. You may have to turn off the TV internal speakers. Set the audio output type to surround or 5.1
If you don't use the smart apps in the TV and do use the music channels on your cable system you could run the optical from the cable box to the HTS instead of the TV. That way the TV can be off when used for music.
