A roof or attic antenna is always best. These can be amplified if needed.
An amplified indoor antenna second best.
A passive indoor antenna least best.

but every location is different so trying different antennas may be needed to max the number of channels you can scan and reliably view. If the signal strength is marginal you may find a channel impossible to lock onto at times.
