Samsung TV, receiver, 4 HDMI inputs, HDMI switch and need to listen to all via headphones

So we have Samsung TV with 2 HDMI inputs, Yamaha receiver with 4 HDMI inputs, Sony DVD, Direct TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick, Rocket fish HDMI switch. Trying to hook all up to TV and have it so my mostly deaf father can listen to it all via his headphones and we can listen on TV. Cannot seem to get it to work! Help!

Connect everything to the receiver. From receiver, single HDMI cable to the TV. Plug headphones there, and control volume with TV' remote.

I do suppose you have decent speakers with your receiver.
