Satellite L355-S7812 shuts down in windows 7 or Vista

I bought same from Best Buy on June 24th, 2008. still has Vista o/s with all updates. Suddenly tonight 08/20/2010 around 6:30PM just shut down.
Could there be a common hardware problem?

Could be worth checking Toshiba's website for recall notices or known problems. Have you tried removing the battery and trying with the power line alone?

few things

1.Try removing battery from laptop and turn on with just power supply
2. if your ac adapter went bad borrow one from a friend or repair shop
3. try removing one of the memory chips and try.
