More info?)
The Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000HD PVR just became available through
Cox Communications in Las Vegas a few days ago. I got one and I am
having the same problem that I had with my Scientific Atlanta Explorer
3250HD cable box - I use the digital output and the audio drops out for
a split second at a time... often. I have tried both the optical and
coaxial digital outputs, 2 different cables of each type, and 3
different home theater receivers, all with the same result. So it has
to be either a glitch in the design of the 8000HD/3250HD or it is
something wrong with the cable service. No one at Cox has been of any
help. The phone support representatives I spoke with could not
successfully troubleshoot this problem, and they claim that they cannot
contact Scientific Atlanta (and Scientific Atlanta won't support
consumer inquiries - they refer you to your cable provider). All they
can do is send out a technician. The technician who came to look at my
3250HD box, which gave me the same problem, was clueless - he didn't
even know what the optical digital output was for. He said that he had
never seen a box hooked up to a receiver via the digital outputs.
(My 3250HD box had another issue, too - sometimes the audio and video
would get out of sync. This has happened once on my 8000HD box so
far.)
Does anyone else have this same problem? It makes the TV-watching
experience unenjoyable when the audio continuously drops out. If
anyone knows how to resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate
it.
To "fix" this problem with the 3250HD box, I had to downgrade to the
3100HD box, which has its own set of problems, but did not have the
audio drop-out issue.
Thanks,
Kevin
