screen protection -yes or no

I remember having a 3000 series ipaq and after about 6 months I noticed
scratching on the screen around the input panel. Ever since I have had about
6 pdas and I have used screen protectors on each -but they really dull the
screen.

I put one on my new pda but I am wondering about doing away with it- I
suffer a duller screen etc but at what cost ? anyone else going naked ?

LOL...I find I don't keep my PDA's long enough to really worry about the
screen. It's a disease called...I like the new one

What kind did you use?

The NuShields I'm using on my e750
are every bit as "shiny" as the original screen...

I strongly recommend using a screen and suffering with a dull one until you
find a better make. That protects your pda and makes for a better chance on
resale when you trade on.

I started using Belkin Screen overlays. These have an adhesive and you can
see a mottled effect to begin with but that dissapears as the screen 'beds
in'. Recently I have gone onto a reusable brand. These are fine and shiny
and I notice no major problem in viewing. I'm not sure about the reusable
bit though - I find that once you clean them minute hairs and dust particles
stick to the (washable) adhesive side so you have them spoiling the view on
replacement (though not dramatically). AT about £5 though its better than
having a scratched pda screen.

I can only relate my experience. I have been using handhelds since the
original Palm Pilot, then pro, them IIIc, Then Clie and now iPAQ 2210. I
have never used a screen protector, and I have never had a single scratch. I
am quite careful with my units though.

I figured I'd rather have the odd scratch than fiddle around with protectors
and possibly affecting the display. Just never got any scratches.

Are you asking that? You can see it so it is the effect on your eyes that
matter, not anyone elses.

Perhaps you should be asking which makes show no difference when applied,
but then there is still a difference between what your eyes see and any
respondent.

I've been using the same HP since May 2002. It's scratched up, yes, but
still quite readable. It's time to replace it (although it still works
fine), so I doubt screen protectors would have been worth the trouble.

Belkin are good. After a few days the sticky stuff sets and they look
fine. You do need the backlight on unless outside tho, I could getaway
with it off before i applied one. Been using this one for 4 months now.

Just what are you guys doing that scratches your screen? Using ONLY the
supplied stylus should not scratch, or are you using pens, fingernails and
any old rubbish from your pocket. I wouldn't want to degrade the screen
using a film of plastic, I only use the stylus and my screen is fine.

In my experience the stylus of any device is most certainly not
scratch free as I did expect it to be.
Since PPC's are mostly screen input only devices, it is advisable
to use a screen protector.. more so if you have a 'I want the best'
attitude and want to sell your current device to buy something newer
every once in a while.
For me, it's purely screen protection. I write and tap on it a lot
and I can clearly see where my screen would have been scratched now
if I hadn't put on any screen protector. I plan to use my PPC for
as long as it will run, so the screen needs to be perfect.
A new display on a PPC is *way* more expensive than a simple protector.
One $10 protector can save a $250 display from scratch damage and
you'll be a happy viewer for many years.

Here is an experience. On the same day, I purchased screen protectors and
one of those pen/stylus combos. One day I was using the pen part and forgot
to take it down and use the stylus. When I looked down at my handheld, it
had red ink marks all over the screen protector. I shudder to think about
what would have happened if I didn't have a screen protector on. Been using
one to this day. =)

I find it easier to use with a protector. The stylus slips less, and I like
that.

I don't want anything to come between me and my display.
After having used my Ipaq for nearly two years, I'm glad I've left mine
unprotected.

seriously - I gladly give up a little bit of the display quality (and a very
small bit it is) for the peace of mind of not having to live with a nice big
scratch because I (or my son or daughter) didn't catch a piece of lint or
dust under the stylus, before sliding it halfway across the screen. as you
can see there are many different schools of thought, but since $$ doesn't
grow on trees (at least not in my back yard) the screen protector route is a
very smart move to protect my investment.
