Second screen goes black after 2 mins

I have a dell latitude E6530 laptop that I dock and I am trying to use two screens the one on the laptop and the other plugged into the docking station a Dell E172FP. the E172FP stays on for 2 min then goes black. if I wait ten mins I can power off and back on and it will stay on for another 2 mins. what am I missing?

The external screen may be the problem. My guess is that there are bad capacitors on the power board inside the E172FP. Can you try that screen on another computer?

ratedk this was the problem, I ended up haveing to go out and purchase a new monitor thank you for your reply.
