hello all nice group. i was wondering if some one could help me . i
recently was lucky enough to find some cool old video game systems . one
of them being an old sega genesis 1 with the sega cd system . the side
by side kind. but sadly with only one plug. does the sega cd part use
the same plug as the sega genesis? do they both have to be pluged in at
the same time to function? if it doesn't use the same type what type
would it use? i also found an old turbo grafx 16 with a keith courage
hue card and a controler.. but no rf adapter and no power adapter.
what type of rf cord does this system use? like nes or sega or a switch
box like atari. i had found several power cords, but not sure if any
are the match for the turbo graphics system. any help would be great as
i am very excited to see if they work and to play some games!! thanks
all for your time.

The Model 2 Sega CD (side by side) uses the same power adapter as the
original Sega Genesis. The AC adapter (according to the manual) is DC9V 1.2A
and if you want the model number, it's MK-4101 for the power supply. The
Turbografx uses the same RF adapter as the NES/Sega Genesis (the autoswitch
type) and if you want to be able to hook it up to your television with the
Audio/Video cables, you need to buy your Turbografx the Turbobooster
peripheral. Hope this helps you out.

You can use a Genesis (1) power supply safely with your turbo grafx
system. The "side by side" Genesis/Sega CD system you have most likely
is the Genesis II model, which uses a different plug from the Genesis 1
or Sega CD. Hope this helps. Do a google search on "Deathskull
laboratories" - this site is excellent for making sense of power supply
substitutions.

thanks for your help. i was able to get the turbo grafx working with
your suggestions.. and the system itself worked beautifully.. the only
bad thing was that when i went to plug in the controller it was not
responding.. so i took a look and it seems that some of pins from the
controller were broke off in the controller plug in hole. so that is why
the controller wasn't working.. is there any way i could repair this or
fix it?? what a bummer... :( on the other hand.. i am not sure i am
understanding the ac power cord thing for the side by side genesis cd
unit..
the genesis is the genesis 1 unit. i have 2 power supplies for that
unit. 1601? i think.. will those power supplies fire up the cd? im
afraid to just plug it in and do it i don't want to wreck it.. or am i
looking at a totally different cord to power up the cd? thank you thank
you for your time and all of your help! :)

IIRC:

The power supply for the original Genesis will power up the original
Sega CD (that's the drawer loading model that sat beneath the Genesis).

The Genesis 2 power supply works with the Sega CD 2 (side-by-side flip
top unit).

These power supplies have opposite polarity, so BE CAREFUL!
