Hi,

I recently received my Sennheiser G4ME One and the audio I received was sub-par from what I expected when plugging into the Realtek audio on my Mobo. Bass is muffled, voices are barely audible, music is extremely distorted and unlikeable, and the microphone sounds extremely robotic after testing. Is this a problem with my motherboard? Advice appreciated, as I'd like my investment to be worthwhile.

First off, where did you buy these headphones from? If from a site like amazon or ebay, what seller?

These are 50 Ohm cans so they shouldn't really too much on your sound card. It is possible that your motherboard's integrated sound gives these cans the signature you described though. Answer my first question so that we can continue.

From Amazon, completely new.

As for my mobo, Gigabyte X-79-UP4, pretty expensive for what it is.

As for the problem, I'm trying to find a way to get USB to bypass any PC interference. Will this help? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yea. Trying to bypass with USB might work.

As for an amp, I'm trying to be as economic as possible. ASUS Xonar DG or U3 comes to mind right now. Any thoughts?

Realtek is currently set to stereo and no traces of any 7.1 software are installed.

He doesn't need an amp. These headphones were designed to work with the consoles, where an amp isn't assumed and their impedance is low.

I plugged it in the the rear green and pink ports (aka designated headphone and mic ports)

No, I don't have the analog to digital converter on me right now so...yea.

Shouldn't it be easier on a PC because it can power it well?

These headphones use 3.5mm connectors. You can plug them into any device that accepts that. Tablets, phones, consoles, ect. Your PC doesn't have an amp so it's providing the same amount of power as the other devices.

Funny. I tested the Ipad Air and audio was perfectly normal for youtube videos (where I believe I had the most problems) and movies. I'm really thinking it has something to do with PC interference.

It's definitely possible but I want to make sure it is before we take the next step. Would you mind testing them out on a couple more devices? It doesn't have to be for long, just to make sure that they sound good.

Wow! The Audio is FANTASTIC on mobile compared to my previous headset (Sony Pulse Elite for reference). Tested it out on a phone and on a video that had bad quality on PC, but amazing quality on the tablet and phone.

That pretty much seals it. It must be something with your computer's built in sound card. If they sound that good with a mobile device, they are going to sound amazing with a proper audio card or DAC.

What's your budget for a sound card / DAC for the PC?

Because I'm trying to be more economic after investing in this headset, something less than $50 would work.

I'm thinking Asus Xonar DG because it has an amp, or the U3 because it's portable and has 7.1. Thoughts?

Not a bad pick at all. Just get the DGX instead of the DG. The DG uses PCI while the DGX uses PCI express. Don't know how much longer PCI will be around for so it's a better longer term investment. It comes with a few extra surround sound features too if that's of any interest to you.

I've gotten to expand my budget a little, so would the Creative Sound Blaster Z work as well?

That sound blaster may cost more but it isn't an upgrade. The extra money you are paying for it are going to an onboard processing chip that takes a bit of load off the CPU (less than 1 percent) and brand.

If you have a bit more to spend, I would highly recommend this instead

http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LP3AMC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1419391343&sr=1-1&keywords=fiio+e10k

Not only will it sound better but if you ever need to, you can hook it up to other devices easily (that's really just an extra perk).

Is it able to support a microphone slot? Microphone performance is also bad on the mobo
