setting up audio with optical cable.

OK here goes,complete nooby here so be gentle please.i have a sumvision 5.1surroundsound system,I am trying to use this via a digital audio rush surround sound decoder with an optical cable.now both my tv and xbox one have an optical port but instead of sound I just get a buzz from all speakers and sub woofer.could anyone please advise me as to the best way to use this setup.the sumvision works as I have tried it using Bluetooth and it's fine but won't give me 5.1 from my tv or xbox one.

Tey different audio output settings on the TV and Xbox. The surround sound decoder or it's power supple may be defective. You can check it by connecting headphones to the front out.
