Setting up old Asus 5742G for child

Hi everyone I'll keep this brief.

Setting up an Asus Aspire 5742G laptop for my partners 5 year old.

1. Is this laptop going to be ok (fast enough etc) for simple browsing and learning programs?

2. What kind of safe guards or automated programs are recommended for this kind of use.
As we dont live together I wont always be here to help.

I understand this is a broad question but I would appreciate any help or advice that you can add. Spending today setting uo the wifi and doing google searches aswell.

Hi, first of all, you have an Acer and not an Asus, it should be enough for a child to navigate and do some programming. But what safe guard are you looking for?
