Sharp Soundbar/JVC SmartTV. Netflix

UK based here. I've been reading with interest peoples issues with Netflix and their soundbars. I've tried and exhausted all the options mentioned, barring the optical cable. I have heard that Netflix simply don't support surround sound. However; having read some posts on here. Is the issue just purchasing an optical cable? I'm loathe to go and buy an optical cable if the issue is that Netflix just don't support it at the moment.

Netflix supports 5.1, provided both the content & the devices support Dolby Digital Plus.

You shouldn't need an optical cable, you could test with HDMI initially.

What models of TV/Soundbar do you have, specifically? And what are you trying to watch?

TV is a JVC LED Smart 4K Ultra HD (Model LT-43C862) and the soundbar is a Sharp 2.1 Slim Soundbar (Model HTSBW160). TV only purchased a year a go, Sound bar we got this week. So scratching our heads why we can't get the Netflix to work when Youtube does through the TV App. We've purchased an upgraded HDMI today as well. She has tried that Star Wars Rogue One and Doctor Strange on Netflix and no sound.

No. Can't get any sound at all. All very odd. I've tried switching between 5.1 etc to no avail.
