sharp tv firmware not updating

My USB stick, formatted to FAT32 with the required firmware version D64UA120.uvp, does nothing after the "checking" message finishes and I say yes to apply upgrade. Oh ,,then my 10+ year old Sharp TV model LC-52D64U goes black for about 18 seconds,,,then comes back on to the show I was watching. I get no status bar or any other message. It's been 1 hour+,, so far nothing. I heard it takes a long time but...........this is sooooo painful.
