Hey,

I have had my PC for a while and it came with McAfee antivirus. Should I just ditch it and use Windows Defender instead? I have Malwarebytes too. (Great software, unlike McAfee)
Thanks for any advice!

Solution

First, uninstall from control panel and follow the instruction. After uninstall from control panel, head to this ESET article to download the uninstaller tool for McAfee product.

In my experience the best antivirus is being smart when you're browsing, and being cautious about the sites you visit, the links you click on (including email links), and the things you download. I've been using only Windows defender for a couple years now and haven't had any viruses.

Ok so I should be fine with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes? McAfee and/or Malwarebytes have never really found anything.

I mean, last I heard defender did have an inferior detection rate compared to major 3rd party AV. But you're never 100% protected no matter what AV software you use. Overall, yeah I'd say you're fine with just defender and MWB as long as you use some common sense online.

All right. How exactly can I remove McAfee from my PC? Is there like a special program that I need? Thanks!

Ok so I did that and when I searched McAfee on my PC, it found some things; can I delete them? https://imgur.com/a/IumXa
