Hi all

Just got an EOS 10D, I planned to use my existing lenses, these are Sigma
28-135 and 70-300, Because I had read about some compatibility issue with
Sigma lenses and the possibility of them needing re/chipping, I contacted
Sigma UK with model and serial numbers and they confirmed that both lenses
would need re/chipping at £32.99 each ouch!!!

However now I have the camera I have tried both lenses and cannot find any
function that does not work, anyone know what the compatibility problem is
supposed to be and what is not supposed to work.

Thanks

Paul

You've been lucky! I have a virtually new 70-210. Sometimes it works,
sometimes the camera locks up, showing "Error 99"
There is nothing to suggest why.
The most reliable setting is "Sport" where it works 75% of the time.
On any of the creative zone settings I have to work really hard to find a
combination of settings that allows a take - and there's no rhyme or reason
to why it sometimes fires and sometimes fails.
I've just bought a Canon lens and am flogging the Sigma....(

Often the focal length info will report wrong in the EXIF data - take some
shots and have a look afterwards.

Alan.

I'm thinking of getting a 20D and possibly using a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8
XR Di. Can anyone comment about known issues with Tamron lenses with
Canon EOS digital systems?

My older Sigma lenses work fine if you are shooting wide open, but result in
error 99 if the lens is stopped down at all. This might explain your
improved success in sports mode and it will tend to use larger
apertures/faster shutter speeds.

I use this lens all the time with my Canon Rebel.

Spot on Dean!
The last time I tried to use the lens I took it to the beach to try some
action shots. (Bright sunshine + sand)
It failed on error 99 on every single setting - even with film speed set at
100.
That was the last straw and I ended up trawling eBay for a Canon substitute.

The 70-210 is not a current Sigma lens; it's not listed on their site nor is
it offered as a model for sale on at Adorama or B&H, indicating it's been
out of production for a while. There is a compatability problem with some
older Sigma lenses; my Sigma 300 f/4 (also not currently being sold) works
on a D30, but not a 10D.

Forgot to add, I have a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX which works fine on both the
D30 & 10D.
