Hello

Ive got 6yo notebook and im experiencing lags, freezes and overall slowdowns.

I would like to know what causes this. I would say its HDD because: when i copy some files (100mb+) my pc lags, windows is laggy and cant do anything and i have to turn off my pc by pressing power on/ff button. Disk makes weird noises and during those freezes and lags it makes even more strange noises.
When im on the web like reading or typing this its all fine. But on youtube it freezes sometimes, also cant launch battle.net (more noises) or any game. Also repacking files with 7-zip is impossible. Also when i was copying something i said something about I/O but i just pressed ok...

So is it caused by HDD? I have about 65% of free ram all the time, gaming was fine (when i was able to lauch battle.net) and cpu usage look also fine.

Any guesses?

Hi there olino,

It seems that the HDD has some bad sectors related issue.
I would advise you to try to back up your most important data stored on the drive.(even though it may take a while)

My advise would be to get another hard drive for your OS and use this one for storing non important data.(external enclosure or SATA to USB adapter)

One thing you can try is to run Disk Check and see whether this will improve the performance: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Like the others above me are saying, the hdd could be the cause of it. I would replace it as soon as possible.

Also I am wondering do you have a lot of junk on your pc? I am saying this as 65% of ram is a bit high for a laptop when it is doing normal things. If the hdd is nearly full, then the performance starts to drop.
