Don't get a laptop for gaming. If you're a student and you need a laptop, then what I'll recommend to you is that you buy a good gaming rig for about 1000 or under, and then use the 400-500 dollars on a laptop. You'll find a good deal especially during the "back to school" time.

I've also included a monitor. It may stretch your budget, but it's at 1440p. You'll be able to find 1080p monitors for a hell of a lot cheaper.
You can then buy a decent laptop on sale in a month or two, and then enjoy the best of both worlds. You'll get better performance on the pc and you won't be as likely to be distracted by video games on your laptop. A gaming laptop offers less performance and is bulky.
Keep in mind this answer was written in case you wanted a laptop for school/work and play. If so, separate the two, in my opinion. You'd be able game and work/do school stuff better. I also understand that there might be a situation in which you'd be better off with a gaming laptop, for example, if you were always on the go, and wanted to game, well a desktop pc can't move efficiently yet. In that case, refer to the other answers. But, here is my 2 cents on this matter, and I wish you the best of luck.
