The mouse cursor alludes to POSTs passing, but then getting hung up at Windows. See if you can boot into Safe Mode (tap or hold F8 at start up until you're presented with a boot options menu). Sometimes simply doing so, then rebooting, resolves the hang (I stress "sometimes).
Typically OEMs don't cover software malfunction in their warranty; just parts and labor. So unless the hard drive is bad and this is a direct result, a Sony rep may or may not be able to issue a RMA case for you to have it sent in to them. Won't hurt to ask though if you're still covered.
