Sony Vegas GPU render Nvidia GTX 770

Hello!

I have recently built a PC for video editing in Sony Vegas. I have installed Sony Vegas PRO 12 64 bits and I am ecperiencing several problems.

First is that the playback is very slow, I have tried on Sony Vegas PRO 11 64bits and its much smoother.

Second is that it makes no difference to render using GPU or CPU.

And third, it will freez many many times (both versions) during rendering as well as editing

Here is my PC config:

MoBo: ASUS X79 DELUXE
CPU: i7 4820K
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP Quad Channel 1866 MHz (CML16GX3M4A1866C9) 16Gb (4x4Gb)
GPU: ASUS GTX 770 DC2OC
PSU: Corsair AX860
SSD: Samsung SSD 840 EVO Basic
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit


I have tried several configuration of Max dynamic RAM. Enabled and Disabled the GPU acceleration.

I am very disapointed as I spent a lot of money on this PC and it is going very bad and slow...

Could you please help me with this? Is anybody experiencing this?

you should have bought a 7970 + openCL combo, its faster than the 770

Are you using only one drive in this system (the SSD) or do you have a second drive to use as a scratch disk (storage of project assets such as the video files)? It's a good idea to store the project files on a drive other than the OS drive. Do you have the latest drivers for your video card? Just out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have?

Sorry, I have 16 Gb RAM (4X4 Quad Channel) and I have extra 2X 1 Tb WD HDD. I use SSD for Windows 7 + Sony instalation. 1 HDD for the video storage and the other HDD for rendering output.

Yes, I have updated all the drivers. I am really desperate as the software is slow and freeze too often...

Anyway, users say that many encoders do not support CUDA, so check that it isn't the case.

Thanks for your answer, unfortunatlly, I have tried all encoders possible with and without GPU acceleration and still no difference... I have checked as well Adobe Premiere and they dont have the GTX 770 n their compatibilty GPU acceleration list....

It looks like buying a GTX6XX would of have been better even if they are older models. Lets wait and see...

Unfortunately is is several months later and still no solutions here. I purshased a GTX 780 and get decent results as long as the videos are not longer than 10 minutes or so, but if they are multi-layered and longer than 10 minutes they always crash. What is most disappointing is by the time I see them crash I've seen what the render time would be if it was allowed to finished and the increased speed is incredible...help Sony...please.

I have the same issue that I spent a lot of money and bought a GTX 770 4Gb (EVGA) and the Vegas 12 shows the option to render using its CUDAs but then it takes the same time than rendering wiht CPU, and I see its not just a coincidence because in fact it is using the CPU at maximum (checked on the task manager).

And also crashes very often. I also have a SSD with the system and the program installed, but the footege and the render material I put it in a standard HDD.
Please help me!!!

Considering the age of this thread you might be better off starting a new one with your question. Start a new thread and I will see what I can come up with in the mean time.

Problem understood:
Thing is that if you have turned on your CUDA graphic card on "preferences" in Vegas, it means that any process that uses CUDA technology it will be used. Thoses processes are a group of effects and transitions that come with SV 12 and now 13. So if you don't use any of these process the whole work lies in the CPU only. If you test it rendering a piece of footage (with no effects at all) and trying with and without CUDA, the time will be exactly the same. Then if you apply a bunch of effects (the GPU accelerated ones) to that footages, CUDA starts to work, and ironicaly you can check the the uses of the CPU goes down from 90% to 60 or 70 depending on the number and type of effects you applied.
And if you really wants to compare the same process with the same effects rendered ONLY by CPU, you have to go to preferences and deactivate the GPU. You will see that the render now will take 5 or 6 times comparing with the previous rendering with the GPU.
