spybot search and destroy 2.2 error - cannot start update service

I've just installed spybot search and destroy 2.2, the one with the new interface.

Everythings working fine (internet protection full), except that I cannot start the updating service. I go to start center > settings > system services. The scanner service is working fine, which is responsible for scanning single files during on access or custom demand scans. But the updater service isn't. Whenever I click start next to the update service I get this error message: "could not
start the system service spybot S&D 2
updating service. The reason given by the
system (1068): The dependency service
failed to start."

It means I can't get updates. I am running windows xp pro SP3.
Anyone else had this problem?

Please I do not think this was caused by a virus. I found few or none when I scanned with search and destroy only a few days ago.

However I am planning to get avira soon. problem is there are soooooo manty versions to pick from. Can someone help me?

In the meantime ill stick to avast free.
