Steel series 7.1 head set without 7.1 sound card?

Will 7.1 headset have 7.1 sound if I don;t buy the 7.1 sound card? (it cost 20 $ more to bundle the sound card w/ the head set)

is it USB? if so I would have to say yes as windows will not be using the sound card. The 2 headsets I looked at on newegg use drivers that you install in windows to help windows turn the sound into 7.1 audio
