I have a digital cable box. I cannot receive stereo reception on my
televsion when it is hooked up to this
box (Comcast Cable). Am I required to connect the red and white plugs from
the box to the TV to receive stereo
reception, and if I do--the audio in--is that connected to the TV or to the
Cable box? Thank you.

It's tough without having pictures of the back of the TV and the back of the
cable box, but here's a try:

First, do not connect the RF output of the cable box to the RF input of the
TV, tune to Ch. 3 and expect stereo, as most cable boxes do not have an MTS
stereo modulator inside, which may be why you get mono.

If your digital cable box is like mine, it has two video outputs, one with a
yellow jack and one with a special multipin jack for S-VIDEO. You connect
either one of those to the corresponding jack on a video input of the TV.
Do the same thing with two more cables, connecting from the red and white
audio jacks on the cable box to the corresponding red and white jacks on the
same video input of the TV. Select that video input as the source and it
should work. That is exactly how I have mine.

PS, when making the video connection, if you have the S-VIDEO option, it
will deliver a slightly better picture than regular video.

Use a fully wired Scart to go from the box to the TV. It should then give
you an RGB picture and stereo. The phono's on the back of the TV are
usually audio out (to your amp). If you have an amp connect the audio out
on the box (or use a breakout Scart (from Maplin)) to a spare input on your
amp, and get the sound through your stereo.

Are there similar problems with stereo fm/am receivers from the 70s and 80s?
