Hi there,

I've been having trouble with my Asus N56V laptop. It crashes out of nowhere and does this more often as the laptop is used more regularly. I'm rather certain the problem is not software related as I've reinstalled different operating systems and formatted my drive and it keeps occuring.

Strange lines occur and move around at the side of the screen:

If I've not used the laptop for a few weeks, it will crash after about a 6 hour period. If I use it again soon after, time will be shorter (say 3 hours) and so on until it will work for only a few minutes. It doesn't seem to overheat either. It is not just the display either, sound will cease as well as the display.

I hope anyone knows what the problem is.

Thanks!

Solution
Definitely sounds like hardware failure is happening.
I would try these steps:
Run memtest86 and test the RAM
Run Furmark and test the GPU
Run the intel processor diagnostic tool and test CPU
Run HD Tune and test hard drive

These are some basic Hardware tests that can be done. See if anything comes up.
