Studio 1737 powers of when lid closes, wont turn back on unless it is plugged in

My Dell Studio 1737 completely powers off when you shut the lid. I already went to the settings in windows 8.1 to choose what the laptop does when the lid is closed. It still completely powers off. It won't let me turn it back on unless i plug it into the charger. Once it boots, i can take it off the charger and use it like normal, but if it gets shut again, it will completely power off.The laptop won't even charge if it is closed. It is like the power is completely cut once it is closed. I am using a brand new battery as well. Thanks!

Hi,

Please do try changing the power option settings as well that may help.
- Open Power Options then click on Change Plan Settings then Change Advanced Power Settings.
- Expand Hard Disk then set Turn off Hard disk after to NEVER.
- Expand Sleep and set Allow hyrbid sleep to OFF.
- Set Hibernate after to NEVER.
- Do also set Sleep Mode to Never.
- Click Apply and OK then test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.

Unfortunately it did not work. I also tried a different battery and the problem persisted.
