I have windows XP
Radeon HD 4600 series
Hi def TV
HDMI cable between computer and TV
LG DVD, LG Bluray
VLC media player

Surround sound did work at one point, room mate did something and now I only have stereo and PCM on my Pioneer surround receiver. Tried all the normal things (I think) but no go.

Perhaps if I beat it with a hammer it would help.

Had tons of issues with revisions of catalyst control center perhaps thats the issue?

Thanks

set your receiver audio mode to auto-detect. this can eliminate the receiver as the issue.

my pioneer receiver typically displays "stereo" while i use my pc and "pcm" while i use my ps3. this is completely normal.

most windows sounds, music and some movies are stereo only. use a file or disk you have played in the past and know works in surround sound as a test.

did you recently update catalyst?

check your windows audio properties. click your receiver and double check that things look normal such as balance, etcetera.

do you have a soundcard or integrated soundcard software installed? check to make sure this is set correctly (or remove the software altogether since you dont need it)

since you are running sound out via hdmi on your video card i suppose bad catalyst drivers could be an issue. however, if you did not update or change them then i would think the problem lies elsewhere. unless there is some sort of conflict with another driver or software package you just installed.

open VLC media player. check the sound playback options as they could be set to stereo.

I think the catalyst is upto date, just downloaded the file last night. It's sort of funny since even with sterio I thought the reviver would let me do prologic, however I have had full blown dolby digital work....and I want it back :)
