Hey all,

I currently own a JVC Everio HD camcorder (GZ-HM300BU). IIRC it cost $200 new. It shoots 1080p video but the video quality is pretty poor. I knew that when I bought it, but I'd been using a Samsung point-and-shoot camera (from 2008 - only shot 640x480 video) before that and any HD camera was going to be much better. I digress.

Anyway, I'm looking to buy a new, much higher-quality video camera. I've decided I need a camera with the following characteristics:

- Minimum 1080p recording, preferably 4K for future-proofing and extra flexibility
- Very good image quality
- Good OIS
- $500-600, though I may be able to stretch further if necessary - but no higher than $1,000

I'd really love something like the Sony FDR-AX100, but that's $2,000. Currently looking at the Panasonic HC-VX870 - it's pricey (~$900 from eBay), but seems like a good contender.

Oh, and I'm Australian, so my budget is in AUD.

Any suggestions for me?

The Panasonic you mentioned would be a better choice if you can find one in your price range.
