Surface pro recovery data

Hi

I just bought a surface pro from eBay and it seems the previous owner deleted the recovery data to free up space but did not include the usb recovery drive. Question is can I use a usb recovery drive created on my Windows 8 pc to do factory reset?

Highly doubtful. Completely different driver set. You can try it, though. If it doesn't work, you are in worse shape than you are now.

Is there another solution you could suggest? If not I will probably send it back as there also seems to a problem with the screen and the auction described as fully working very good condition no mention of a problem, it was only after the auction had finished he messaged to say he had a problem performing a factory reset so I asked if it meant it was an issue with the surface as from what I could see on the Microsoft site the reset was a pretty straight forward process (this is before I'd researched and discovered the recovery data 'mod' people do) he replied: 'no issues just needs the disks that came with the surface originally'. and from what I can gather it didn't come with any disks...

Get the recovery set from Microsoft, maybe. It probably cost, though.
