Solved! System restore hang

I have done some changes that I want undone, so I want to go back to a restore point. The machine never finishes! After an hour I powered off and gave up. It starts as normal but does not restore. What is wrong?

System restore can often have issues. Especially if you power it off in the middle of it. Have not found a fix when restore points fail to restore. Could be a hard drive issue also.

have you tries going back to a different restore point ... like maybe the one before the one that won't restore?

Yes, doesn't work. The machine is now in a perfect state, except that flash is not working properly with firefox, no big deal.
